Being Thankful for Your Job
All of us at some point in our careers feel like we have hit the wall, or realize it is time to move on. Maybe we no longer feel like we can contribute, or that our contributions are not appreciated. When we find ourselves in this position, it can become very frustrating at work, and we may even bring that frustration home.
Without placing our full trust in God, uncertain times can cause real angst. Thankfully, we have the promise that God is all-knowing and has our lives in His hands.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
For so many people I know that have gone through a period like that in their careers, God has revealed Himself to be faithful during those very trying times. Many people were able to discern God’s purpose for them remaining in their current job and trusting God to work in and through them to help change the culture, which eventually led to real job satisfaction. For others, God provided a new career opportunity at a different company. One thing is certain, we should all be grateful for God’s provision in our careers, even in trying times. We simply must trust in Him!
And for those of you who are blessed right now with an awesome job and a supporting team of colleagues around you, thank God that He has placed you there, and ask Him for discernment on how you can be His instrument in your current role.
Additionally, business owners should take an additional opportunity to thank God for the opportunity to provide jobs to others. What a blessing that God is using you to provide a sense of purpose, work and financial stability to your employees. It is a great responsibility and privilege you should never take for granted.
Throughout this week take some time to reflect on the blessing that God has given you a job and taken care of you and your family. If you are between opportunities, thank God in advance for how He will provide (and draw you closer to Him during this time), and if you are retired, thank Him for how He provided a career that allowed you to save so you are able to enjoy your later years focused on other endeavors (and hopefully being available to help Him in building His Kingdom-since there is not such a thing as retirement in the Bible).
Despite what the world may say, work is a blessing from God! We are all sinners, yet our gracious God is always there for us! Now that is Amazing Grace!!! No need to run scared!! We have an Amazing God!!! He’s Got This!!!
