Scriptures for the Bad Days

When your day is going well, it’s easy to praise God and be positive. When you’re having one of those tougher days that make you want to go back to bed and pull the covers over your head, it’s harder to muster up the “peace that passes all understanding” that God promises us.

No matter how much you love your job or how wonderful your company is, at some point, you’re going to have a bad day at work. A disagreement with your boss, tension with a coworker, or an unhappy customer can easily rob you of your peace and perspective, not to mention add stress to your day.

God didn’t design us to handle everything on our own. He designed us to work in partnership with Him, to rely on Him for strength and to look to Him for wisdom. We must do our part – take a step of faith and strive to do our work with excellence. Trust God to do His part – to work in the hearts of others, make wrong things right, and give you favor in your tasks.

To help yourself snap out of a bad mood brought on by a bad day, you have more control than you might think. Lean into your relationship with the Lord. Ask God to refresh your perspective and restore your soul. Our merciful God knew we would have tough days. It’s when things get hard that we must remember the Lord’s promises to hold us up, calm our anxieties and restore our peace. He may be using that bad day to get your attention back to Him!

The Bible is full of encouragement for the bad days. Meditate on these verses:

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20)

“The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9).

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8).

If you feel like you’re under attack at work, or if you just feel overwhelmed by the demands and pressures coming at you, talk to the Lord and reflect on these scriptures. God has given you a living, breathing book of reminders to encourage you that He’s right by your side, even on your cloudiest of days. Have a great day!
